The
cartoons and images that appear on this site have been collected
from various sources. Some have been taken from other peoples'
websites. Some have been sent to us by other people. Some
we did ourselves. There is only one thing that we know for
certain, and that is the ones we did ourselves, we own the
copyright for. We are therefore free to use these as we
please.
But
what about the others? Where we have taken cartoons or images
from other peoples' sites, we have always contacted them
and asked for permission to use it. If we do not get their
permission, we don't use it.
In
some cases, the sites were no longer online when we tried
to get their permission, so we were not able to contact
them. Links to those sites come to this page. We hope that
the former webmasters would be pleased that a part of their
work lives on in cyberspace. But if they're not, this page
shows them how to put a stop to it.
If
the cartoon or image is sent to us by a member of the public,
we ask them to verify that they do own the copyright and
that they give us their permission to use it.
If
they found the picture on the web, we ask them for the address
of the site so we can contact them directly to ask for permission.
So,
on that basis, you would think that everything was alright,
wouldn't you? But it isn't is it.
Somebody,
somewhere could easily give us permission to use a cartoon
or image, which they say they own the copyright for, which
in fact, they don't. They can either do this knowingly or
without knowing it. In these days when things can be scanned,
downloaded, digitally stored and electronically sent, it
is easy to lose track of who owns what. So, what can we
do about it?
Our
policy
We
think we have done the best that we can to prevent this
site from using protected cartoons and images where permission
has not been granted by the copyright holder. But, because
of the difficulties tracing the true origin of anything,
we may well have something on this site, that someone, somewhere,
who owns it, doesn't want us to have.
If
this is the case, contact us at howdareyou@fastletters.com
and tell us which fastletter
you want removed. Also, confirm that
you are the owner of the copyright to the cartoon or image
contained in it. Faster than a fastletter
it will be gone.
At
fastletters,
we are trying to make people laugh, not upset them.
